Oldham, Frederick Fernely Saunders

Cpl. Frederick Fernley Saunders Oldham was brought to Paris for burial, with full military honors, after being killed in a flying accident at High River, Alberta. Joining the Air Force in Toronto, nearly two years previous to the declaration of war, he was one of eight selected to take a course in meteorology and was attached to the Jericho Beach Airport at Vancouver, B.C. His ambitions to become a pilot were realized when, in May, 1941, he started a flying course and was piloting a Tiger Moth, July 18, of the same year, when he met his death. Fernley was born in Paris December 4, 1915, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Oldham. He attended Paris Public and High Schools and was gifted with unusual musical ability with the piano and violin. He was married to Jean Millar, Vancouver, and was a brother of Capt. Walter Oldham, of the Canadian Army.
